When to use an external breast prosthesis in Morocco

An external breast prosthesis is used after a total or partial mastectomy when surgical reconstruction is not immediate, not desired, or not medically indicated. In Morocco it concerns several profiles: patients awaiting reconstruction (6–24 months post-surgery), patients who declined reconstruction, and patients for whom reconstruction is contraindicated (radiotherapy, comorbidities, age). MediUnit works with CE-certified European manufacturers to offer prostheses adapted to skin, the Moroccan climate's heat, and lasting comfort.

The 3 main types of external prosthesis

The right choice depends on time since surgery, scar healing zone, city climate, and lifestyle (sport, swimming, daily activity).

  • Classic silicone prosthesis (symmetric shape, breathable skin): from 1,800 MAD excl. VAT. The most-purchased for daily wear.
  • Lightweight or "swim" prosthesis (lighter silicone, water-repellent): from 2,200 MAD excl. VAT. Ideal for hot climates and aquatic activities.
  • Adhesive or "contact" prosthesis (skin-attached): from 3,200 MAD excl. VAT. Recommended for active patients or stabilized scarring (>12 months).

CNOPS, CNSS, and private insurer reimbursement

In Morocco, several schemes cover all or part of an external breast prosthesis cost upon presentation of a medical prescription and a complete file (operative report, invoice, AMO sheet).

  • CNOPS: fixed reference tariff, reimburses approximately 70 % of the conventional tariff with an oncology prescription.
  • CNSS / AMO: similar reimbursement with care sheet and paid invoice. The pharmacy or distributor can electronically transmit.
  • Private insurers (Saham, Wafa, Atlanta, RMA…): top-up commonly available — verify with your contract before purchase.
  • Recognized renewal: most schemes accept a new prosthesis every 24 to 36 months.

Choosing the right size and shape

Size is determined in cup measurement, never by eye. Three measurements suffice: chest girth, pre-surgery cup, and footprint/scar. MediUnit provides a printable self-measurement guide or can refer to a partner corsetière in Casablanca and Rabat for fitting.
